Patterns in Digital Footprint
This week since we are working on data and data patterns, I wanted to continue with the correlation between anxiety and my heart rate.
I feel like the topic is close to my emotional being and it would be really interesting to watch how my meditation triggers changes in the heart rate. I was wondering whether I could use mindful meditation to track my heart rate this week and see what comes out of it.
The way I am thinking of tracking mindful meditation is tracking the thoughts in my head and how many thoughts I am swiping away just like swiping profiles on tinder.
I feel like having something that will track my heart rate while I have thoughts in my head would be a great realisation to see how my meditation works. Many swipes in one session would mean that I could be having many thoughts but a few swipes could mean that maybe I could have a more successful mediation session. Tracking my heart rate could give me a clearer idea of how my meditation went.
Dan O sent me a few options to track my thoughts, so to start with I decided to use the mousePressed() function on p5js web editor. I used that on my phone to make the process less distracting and more purposeful. Just a simple swipe to track the thoughts could do good.
I practiced this process twice, once during an anxious state of mind, and the other in a calmer state. On doing the exercise, I realised that the data could be flawed a bit because while I was meditating I was also trying to be mindfully conscious of the fact that I had to click on the clicker to keep a count on my thoughts. At some points, I do believe I missed out on a few clicks as well/ they could be a bit delayed.
Below are the screen records of the experiment.
