Assignment: Blank Modification

For this assignment, I chose to use a toilet paper roll as my form. I was intrigued with the form of the roll and wanted to explore the possibilities with it. 

I began with some sketches before considering the themes of this project. On looking at the toiled paper roll for a few seconds, the first visual that set in my mind were teeth and a mouth. I began sketching some of the possibilities and was content with the image of bleeding/vampire teeth.

For the themes, I wanted to work around with juxtaposition and appropriation. To jog back my memory, I googled cartoon characters of early 2000’s and couldn’t help but notice spongebob squarepants. I remember watching the show in kindergarten while my mom would make me eat my lunch. It was a show I had my childhood associated with and I wondered why not use appropriation for this character and give it bleeding/vampire teeth for juxtaposition! 

And so I took a reference picture of spongebob and painted the roll using acrylics, making my first toy ever!
